Bilateral Relations, 19.05.2026
Slovenia declared her independence on 25 June 1991 and was recognised by Türkiye on 6 February 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 26 August 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Ljubljana was opened on 1 April 1993 and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Ankara was opened in September 1996.
The bilateral relations that have been developing since then were elevated to the level of “strategic partnership” with the document signed in 2011 by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the-then Prime Minister, incumbent President of the Republic of Türkiye and H.E. Borut Pahor, the-then Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia. The relations between our countries, as two NATO allies, continue in a multidimensional way with the bonds of friendship and alliance. Türkiye and Slovenia commemorated the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership this year.
The reciprocal high-level visits have maintained close political dialogue between two countries. The last visit at the level of Minister of Foreign Affairs was the visit of H.E. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye to Slovenia on 30 August 2024. The Strategic Partnership 2024-2026 Action Plan was signed during the visit.
H.E. Urska Klakocar Zupancic, the-then Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia paid a visit to Türkiye on 11-13 February 2026, upon to invitation of H.E. Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

Our bilateral economic and trade relations, which are developing in every area, set a new record in 2025. The total volume of foreign trade between Türkiye and Slovenia has reached 3.77 billion USD, with an increase of 22.5% compared to last year.
The 9th Meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC), which is held regularly between the two countries, took place on 13–14 January 2025 in Ankara under the co-chairmanship of H.E.
