Press Release Regarding the Peace Agreement Signed Between the Government of Colombia and FARC

We welcome the signing of the Peace Agreement regarding the cessation of 52 years of armed conflict between the Government of Colombia and FARC by H.E. Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia and Rodrigo Londono, leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia at Bogota on 24 November 2016, based on the final version agreed upon in Havana on 12 November 2016.

The new Agreement which takes into consideration the hesitation and reservations of various segments regarding the previous agreement signed in Cartagena on September 26, but did not enter into effect as a result of the referendum held on October 2, constitutes a significant step in the way of lasting peace and stability in Colombia. It is our sincere wish that the upcoming stages of the process be successfully accomplished.

H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , President of the Republic of Turkey called and had congratulated H.E. Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016 for his leadership in the peace process of Colombia.

Turkey will continue to contribute to the various dimensions of the peace process in Colombia.
