Press Release Regarding the Terrorist Attacks in Nigeria

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 17.07.2015

No: 207, 17 July 2015

We have learnt with great sadness that 49 people lost their lives in a bomb attack perpetrated against the crowd shopping on the eve of the Eid festival yesterday (16 July) in Nigerian city of Gombe, the Gombe state capital and that 9 people lost their lives as a result of the suicide attacks against worshippers at the Eid prayer ground this morning in the town of Damaturu, the Yobe state.

We wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the attacks and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.

We strongly condemn these terrorist attacks targeting innocent civilians on the eve as well as on the first day of the Eid. We wish that the persons and networks behind these brutal acts of terror causing bloodshed on the sacred days of Islam to be arrested within the shortest time possible and sentenced to the most severe punishment that they deserve.

We once more reiterate our support to Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and hope that peace and tranquility will be restored in the region as soon possible.
